This week we meet Katie Rodgers, CMA – owner of Licious Living and host of this month’s Breakfast Networking event on Thursday.
What initially attracted you to the CMA designation?
In my mid 20s I was working fulltime doing accounting when I decided that I need more education to complement my commerce degree. I had experienced that life letdown after graduating with a BComm that the world would not just be knocking my door down with a bevy of high paid jobs. It wasn’t clear yet what I would be when I grew up‚ but I knew that accounting could lead into any industry. Getting a CMA designation seemed like a great way to make sure I could move throughout the world, across industries and in and out of the workforce at my leisure. Having a designation and accounting skills to fall back on seemed like a realistic way to live this controlled vagabond existence that I envisioned in my 20s.
The CMA had the most diverse variety of course topics, and the skill set from combining strategic planning, marketing, IT, with accounting and finance was the most interesting for me.
Don’ t forget you can meet Katie this Thursday at the new Licious Cafe at the Robert Lee YMCA. To register, click the button below. Tomorrow we continue the interview and find out what Katie believes differentiates CMA from other professional designations.
